Terms of Use

Salty is a free app for firefighters: a shift calendar, crew chat, trades, time balances, certs, a training and sleep coach, an exposure log and Salty, an AI assistant.

Salty's AI can be wrong. It can misread a question, miss something or state something that isn't true. Check anything that matters.

Salty is not medical, legal or HR advice. It never replaces your protocols, your medical direction, your department's policies or your chain of command. When they disagree with Salty, they win.

Salty is not monitored and can't send help. In an emergency, call 911.

If you're struggling, call or text 988 any time, or call the IAFF Firefighter/Family Crisis Line at 1-844-525-FIRE (1-844-525-3473), for firefighters and their families, any hour.

You are responsible for following your department's patient privacy rules and the law, including HIPAA where it applies to you, whenever you put anything about a patient into Salty: in a chat, a note, a crew or anywhere else.

Salty does not check for patient details or remove them. What you type is saved as you typed it.

Leave out names, addresses, birthdates and other details that identify a patient whenever you can. A narrative or a call review rarely needs them.

Salty never gives, checks or calculates EMS drug doses. Doses come from your local protocols and medical direction.

What you put in Salty is yours. Your department, your officers and other Salty users can't read your chats, notes, calendar, health data or documents, on any plan.

The exceptions are the ones you make: messages you post in a crew are read by that crew, and links you share show what they say they show.

Salty never sells your data.

If you connect Apple Health in the iPhone app or Health Connect in the Android app, Salty reads only what you allow there (sleep, resting heart rate, HRV, steps, active energy and workouts), keeps one summary a day and your workouts, and uses them only for your readiness, training load and coaching. Salty never writes to Apple Health or Health Connect, never uses health data for ads, marketing or data mining, and never shares it with your department, your crew or anyone else. You can turn it off, and delete what it sent, under Coach, Health, Apple Health or Health Connect.

You can export everything or delete your account at any time under Me, Privacy and data. The Privacy Policy says what Salty collects and who helps run it.

Everyone in a crew can read what's posted there, including Salty's replies when someone asks it.

• Be decent. No harassment, threats or hate.
• Crew owners moderate their crew and can take messages down.
• Reports about a message go to that crew's owner and backup owner, never with your name on them.
• A report about the crew owner's own message goes only to the backup owner. When the backup owner files it, or there's no backup owner, nobody in the crew reviews it; you can block them instead.

Don't use Salty to:

• break the law or your department's rules,
• harass, threaten or impersonate anyone,
• get into another person's account or data, or try to break or overload the app,
• try to make Salty's AI ignore its safety rules.

If these terms change, you'll be asked to read and agree to the new version the next time you open Salty.
